Religion. The "ethnic cleansing" was directed against people who were Muslims. Muslims are not an ethnic group, they are adherents of the religion of Islam. The media kept reporting that the aggressors in this case were Serbs and Croats, and failed to mention that the Serbs and Croats were Orthodox and Catholic Christians, and what role their religion played in the war.
