Is it productive to punish in order to achieve potty training?

having to learn to go potty is a necessity of life not a convenience or a nicety.i don't agree with people bribing their kids with stickers candy or toys to try to get it accomplished because again it is something they have to do not just something that you want them to do.punishment is fine as long as it doesn't cross the line to abuse but judging by what you have written that's not a problem.it's ok to take privileges away like watching tv because that's what big boys get to do not babies who won't go potty.time outs are fine as well.i would suggest taking him out of the pull ups when you are home and let him feel how wet and nasty it is for him to mess, because no matter what the packaging says they are nothing but diapers
