Should Christians attend a coming home party for a convicted child molester?

I have a step cousin that was convicted of child molestation and my sister and mom want to know if I will attend. I said no, but they are going in support of the person who is throwing the party for him. The person throwing the party is an aunt so my sister and mom think that because she always comes to their parties then they should go. I do believe that people deserve a second chance and yada yada yada but I think you can support a person like this in other ways like helping them stay or track or something but throwing a party I think is ridiculous! I just don't think its right what do you guys think as far as being a christian?
